Open letter to Ted Yoho; From your Gainesville Constituent, Lynda Dillon

I am your constituent. I won’t be quiet.

Dear Representative Yoho,

I don’t have a sad personal story to tell you because I have been blessed to have insurance all of my adult like and, so far, still do. I am a 71 year old woman who still works full time and has raised two grandchildren. One is still at home and I am further blessed to be able to have him on my policy provided through my position with the University of Florida. I have many friends and family who have depended on ACA for coverage and who will have none if it goes away. But this is not why I am writing.

I am writing because I think everyone in this country, everyone, deserves to have healthcare. I believe the only way to do that is through a national single-payer healthcare plan. Healthcare should not be based on greed, but on need. Pharmaceuticals and insurance companies should not control our access to healthcare. Healthcare should be accessible to all. Doctors should become doctors because they want to heal, not because they want to become rich. Corporate and personal greed are what keeps us from having a system that will ensure the health of all.

I am your constituent. I won’t be quiet. I won’t stop while I am still upon this Earth until we become a country who cares more about its people than being the biggest, richest, most powerful in the world.

I support national single-payer healthcare, and I’m not the only one. We will be coming out and making ourselves heard. It will be to your benefit to listen.

Lynda Dillon, Gainesville
