CALL TO ACTION: Indivisible Gainesville needs YOU to stop the dangerous American Health Care Act (AHCA)

Join this Facebook event: Stop #TrumpCare Senate Call-In Day. The goal is to flood Senate offices with phone calls opposing the AHCA all day.

The Senate wants to bypass normal legislative procedures and force a vote on the AHCA  (TrumpCare) by the end of the month. So now is the time to act! With guidance from the Stop TrumpCare in June Action Guide, we have created a toolkit for you to take action targeting Senator Marco Rubio. We demand that he REJECT this bill and PROTECT his constituents. The launch of this toolkit will kick off actions by Indivisible Gainesville to save the Affordable Care Act until it goes to a vote.

This week’s focus is the phones! After a record-breaking number of phone calls to Congress during the first five months of the Trump administration, phone calls have returned to pre-Trump levels. Only we have the power to change that! The national Indivisible Team has announced that today is Stop #TrumpCare Senate Call-In Day. The link is to the Facebook event, and we urge you to join it! The goal is to flood Senate offices with phone calls opposing the AHCA all day.

When this dangerous bill went to the House of Representatives, YOUR relentless phone calls stopped the first version of the bill. Let’s do that again!

We have created themed call scripts as a starting point and encourage you to personalize them with your thoughts and concerns. So, set a reminder in your phone, write it in your daily planner, set an alarm—do whatever it takes for you to make the call EVERY DAY until Senator Rubio acknowledges that the vast majority of his constituents OPPOSE this bill.

Call script 2 Focus: Public Hearings

Hello, my name is [name] and I am calling from [zip code]. I am calling to request that [Senator’s name] demand that all members of the Senate, not just an all-male working group, are allowed to participate in debate and offer amendments on the healthcare legislation. Behind closed doors is no place to have a debate which affects the lives of all Americans.  Please ask [Senator’s name] to push for public hearings and full participation of the entire Senate. Thank you for your time in answering the phones.”

Call script 3 Focus: Pre-existing conditions

Hello, my name is [name] and I am calling from [zip code]. I am calling to ask that [Senator’s name] commit to voting against the AHCA. This bill will cause people with pre-existing conditions to be charged unaffordable premiums and make healthcare essentially inaccessible. I also would like to state that the senator should vote against any bill that eliminates funding for Medicaid.”
