LOCAL
Monday, January 14
Conversation with Commissioner Gail Johnson Commissioner Johnson has asked local organizations to discuss their 2018 successes and their 2019 goals.

Tuesday, January 15
Alachua County Commission Special Meeting The Alachua County Commission will be having a special meeting regarding the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). Here’s the agenda, some good background info and info on the CRA.

City of Gainesville Rental Housing Subcommittee Meeting on Renters’ Rights & Responsibilities. If you are not familiar with the Alachua County Labor Coalition’s campaign to improve the rental housing stock in Gainesville, visit their page. The agenda for the meeting can be found on this page.

STATE
There will be a Putnam County State Delegation meeting. “The purpose of this meeting is for the Putnam County Legislative Delegation to hear from local constituents, organizations, and elected officials on the issues facing their communities.” Putnam County is represented by Keith Perry in the Senate (District 8) and by Bobby Payne in the House (District 19).
Time: 1:00 – 4:00pm, Thursday, January 17

FEDERAL
Congress is in session this week, Monday through Thursday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Senate will be holding confirmation hearings on Attorney General Nominee, William Barr.
The most important news continues to be the shutdown, which is entering its fourth week. Here is Indivisible National’s latest recap: TRUMP WANTS TO DECLARE A FAKE EMERGENCY TO GET HIS WALL. It lists the three demands we need to make of our representatives should Trump make this authoritarian move.
