Governor Rick Scott did a good job in the week preceding Hurricane Irma’s Florida landfall. But before we heap on too much praise, we should remember all that Scott has done during his tenure to make Florida residents more vulnerable to storms like Irma. His championing of government deregulation and continued denial of the effects of climate change have increased the risk that Floridians face during hurricane season. Read more

The devastation in Houston is due to a weather event made worse by humans. While no single storm event can be blamed on climate change, we know that hurricanes will be stronger, wetter and more frequent. What was once a 500-year storm may well become a 100-year storm.
Indivisible Gainesville, a local group of nearly 2000 citizens, would like to express our dismay at Congressman Ted Yoho’s vote in favor of dismantling the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This decision will negatively impact millions of Americans. Despite broad constituent disapproval, many of our own members received a form letter from Mr. Yoho explaining his vote. Read more
