As some of you know, the Governor has vetoed over $100 million of programs in the budgets of Florida’s public universities. This includes a $20 million cut to UF’s programs, of which $6 million is directly from IFAS. These cuts include funding to programs, students, faculty, and staff. Read more

We know all too well how hard it can be to stay engaged and to stay active in the resistance. Burn out is a very real thing. We’ve decided to put a little fun and a little light competition into the mix in the form of a member challenge. Read more
Our very own member of Indivisible Gainesville, Sara Walters, has a terrific blog, and she has written a great piece that we’d like to share with you called “Rep. Ted Yoho Lied to his Constituents” which points out Yoho’s obvious untruthful tactics in order to get good press coverage. It’s an important read, and we support her willingness to share her thoughts. We encourage you to follow her blog – we certainly intend to!
During a town hall in Gainesville on April 10, 2017, Rep. Ted Yoho said that he agreed with the need for the President to release his tax returns. He even signed on as a co-sponsor of HR 305, the Presidential Tax Transparency Act.
When it came time to take the next step, however, Rep. Yoho was forced to show that he lied. You see, HR 305 has been stuck in committee since January. So, the bill’s sponsor created a discharge motion, to move the bill directly to a floor vote. It needs 218 signatures to move the bill to the floor for a vote. As of May 16, 2017, it has 191 signatures – but Yoho’s isn’t one of them.
Why would someone who says he supports the release of the President’s taxes, and has co-sponsored the bill, not want to take the next step to move the bill…

Stop Our Governor From Vetoing Florida’s 4-H Funding
Nationwide 4-H is the largest youth developmental organization with more than 6.5 million members between the ages of 15 and 18. Last year Florida’s program included more than 192,000 youth and 13,000 volunteers across the state. This year Governor Rick Scott is considering vetoing funding for this organization that teaches our children essential life skills and leads them towards education in science, engineering, and computer science. President Trump divulged information to an adversary, Russia. This was intelligence that was intended to be shared only between our closest allies. Trump admitted the action, one that will make those allies less inclined to share highly sensitive material with us going forward and has severely jeopardized ongoing intelligence operations. To the Members of Indivisible-Gainesville:
We are very excited to announce our new leadership structure. We apologize for our delay and appreciate your patience. We wanted a strong framework before reaching out for membership participation. The main organization of our new teams is quite similar to the previous organization with the major change being multiple leads per team to spread the responsibility more equitably and hopefully enhance our ability to resist even more strongly!

“Please look at the document in your coat pocket. First make sure it says “US Constitution.” Then go to Article One, Section Two, Clause Five and read carefully. There it cites your responsibility to initiate impeachment. This responsibility resides solely with the current House of Representatives, not former President Obama.”
Each day for the past two weeks the Gainesville Sun has published a letter to the editor from one of our members. We can not thank you enough for writing and submitting letters. Gainesville is Representative Ted Yoho’s hometown, and he is still a resident and property owner here. Let’s keep up the hometown pressure on him!
The Town Hall brought up many issues that are critical to our Nation. We must demand an Independent Investigation into Russian involvement in our election and collusion with Trump and top ranking officials. The movement for Impeachment requires consistent pressure or the GOP will not act. Furthermore, Representative Yoho has threatened healthcare, education, the environment, and so many other vital issues.
You have important thoughts on these topics. Please use your concern to fuel your Letters to the Editor.
While writing a letter for the Gainesville Sun might seem insignificant, your letters have a large effect. The number of letters that you have written shows the paper that residents have a significant interest for topics like health care, climate change, and more, which encourages it to increase coverage of those topics. The progressive viewpoint of your letters could move the Gainesville Sun to a position further to the left. Finally, politicians track public opinion. You better believe that Rep. Yoho reads the opinion pages of the local newspaper—as does the staff of Senators Rubio and Nelson.
Please, take the time to challenge the destructive and regressive policies posed by Rep. Yoho, Senator Rubio, and the Republican administration.
Your voice matters. We stand with you.
